Matteo Scalco, riding for VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizanè, finished eighth in stage three of the Giro della Valle d’Aosta, from Pré-Saint-Didier to Colle del Gran San Bernardo. Scalco managed the long final climb to secure his first top-10 finish of the race, crossing the line as the first Italian. He now moves up to tenth place in the general classification.

Also in the mix was 2006-born Colombian rider Edward Cruz, who finished fifteenth on the stage and is now sixteenth overall. The stage win went to Jarno Widar, the new leader of the race.
