The third stage of the Volta Valenciana was marked in its first half by a breakaway from Matteo Scalco, a rider for VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizanè. The Vicenza-born cyclist, class of 2004, joined the day’s leading attackers but was caught 25 km from the finish, just before the final climb. At that point, the peloton, led by UAE Team Emirates, picked up the pace.

The fourth stage will start from Oropesa del Mar and, in its first 105 kilometers, will feature four categorized climbs: Coll de la Bandereta, Coll de la Basa, Alto de Chodos, and Alto de Vistabella. After the last of these climbs, there will still be 76 kilometers to go until the finish in Portell de Morella, with a less demanding yet still undulating route, favoring breakaway specialists.
