Strong performance by Filippo Fiorelli in stage five of the Giro d’Italia, from Ceglie Messapica to Matera (151 km). The Sicilian rider of VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizanè secured an excellent fifth place in the final sprint, marking the third Top-10 finish for the Italian team in this edition of the Giro. Fiorelli showed great determination and tactical awareness in a technical and demanding finale, confirming his excellent physical condition.

“This was a stage I had marked in red—I knew it suited my characteristics. I was very familiar with the route; it almost felt like racing at home since we had this same finish back in 2020,” said Fiorelli after the stage.
“It’s a shame to miss the podium, but I’m happy: this fifth place gives me confidence going into the next stages. I’ve been riding well for a while now, since Tirreno-Adriatico, and maintaining this form is the hardest challenge. So far, I can be satisfied with my performance.”
