In the fourth stage of the Giro Next Gen, from Manerbio to Salsomaggiore, Matteo Scalco secured another Top 10 finish, crossing the line in ninth place. The rider from Vicenza, representing VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizanè, played a key role in a decisive move during the final phase of the stage.

When the race ignited on the climb of the Mille Pini, 36 km from the finish, Scalco broke away from the main group and managed to bridge across to the breakaway riders. Thanks to a strong push on the final ramps of the climb, he joined the chasing group which, six kilometers from the finish, caught the two leaders and formed a nine-man lead group. Scalco attempted a late solo attack with 1.5 km to go, but was reeled back in by the group.

Scalco now sits ninth in the general classification, with Filippo Turconi holding tenth place. Tomorrow promises another day suited to breakaways, as the race heads from the Fiorenzuola velodrome towards the Piedmont region.
