BARDIANI CSF FAIZANÈ: 6TH PLACE FOR LUCA COVILI IN TODAY STAGE OF GIRO D’ITALIA.
Another great race by Luca Covili, able to be in today breakaway of 24 riders and final 6th in today finish-line in Cogne. Now he his also 6th in the white jersey ranking, and best young Italian rider.
Luca Covili is final sixth in today stage in Cogne, second best Italian in this stage behind the winner Giulio Ciccone. The 24-year-old from Pavullo nel Frignano also climbs a position in the ranking of the white jersey, where he is now in 6th place, also making him the best young Italian in the race.
Fifteenth stage of the Giro d’Italia which once again sees Bardiani CSF Faizanè protagonist. After numerous attack attempts that characterized the first 90 km, with Alessandro Tonelli very active and several times in breakaway attempts, the good action starts. It is composed by 24 riders, among which prominent names and skilled climbers and among them is Luca Covili, more and more a certainty of the #GreenTeam in the climb stages. Despite the attack brought by an irrepressible Giulio Ciccone, the athlete of the Bardiani CSF Faizanè does not break down by continuing his constant action, together with Mollema, Tesfazion and Leemreize, to then detach them 10 km from the finish line continuing in his action and thus closing sixth on the finish line.
An action that also led him to improve by one position his placement in the ranking dedicated to young riders (white jersey) where he now occupies the sixth position, thus making him the best young Italian in the race.
These are his words after the finish line: “I am certainly happy of my performance and the condition even if my dream and goal, as well as that of the team, is to win the stage. Today I had very strong breakaway companions, above all Giulio Ciccone to whom I congratulate. I did my race and my pace, remaining immediately behind the best. We took the last climb with just under two minutes behind Ciccone and with a good advantage over the group. At less than -10km I started and detached Mollema and the others in the group, thus closing the sixth stage. Tomorrow day of rest, we recover, but certainly with the team we will try again to take advantage of my good condition. Sixth place in the youth rankings? I didn’t start to finish classified, I also lost minutes to recover in some stages, the goal is to keep trying to conquer a stage.”
