BARDIANI CSF FAIZANÈ: FILIPPO FIORELLI AGAIN ON THE PODIUM. SECOND PLACE FOR HIM IN THE RHODES GP.
First race of the team in April and first podium. Another good second place for Filippo Fiorelli, that after his success at the Porec Trophy and the podium at the Adria Mobil, went already close to the success in the final sprint of the Rhodes GP.
After 186 km of race the Rhodes GP ends with the sprint and the podium of Filippo Fiorelli, able to reach another good second place. After success in the Porec Trophy and the second place in the GP Adria Mobil goings on the good moment of the Sicilian rider that in the last month collects 1 victory and 2 podiums. 4 victories, 7 podiums and 9 top10 placements the results of the whole team in these first months of races, for a very good start in this 2021 season.
The race was characterized by a break of the day of 7 athletes, starting on the first roughness of the day, in which Giovanni Carboni was able to be in. In the final part a first counterattack by some riders including the winner of the day Tord Gudmestad. On the last climb of the day it is therefore the Bardiani CSF Faizanè to impose its own speed making a lot of selection thanks to the work done by Carboni, Savini and Zana and skimming the group that it finds on the counterattackers. It was therefore a narrow sprint on the final main road with a favorable wind, with all the main pure sprinters outside from the group with the exception of Tord Gudmestad previously able to anticipate the climb with respect to the group. Filippo Fiorelli thus closes in second place of the day.
Filippo Fiorelli words after today finish-line:
“Another time we went very close to the success where the regret remains only because the team worked in a spectacular way. In the final we took the race control and we made the final climb so hard that we were left with 15 men, with 3 of us inside. Unfortunately, however, the winner of the day was well supported by the team to stay in the group and beating him was complicated. The arrival was on a main road with a side wind in favor, we reached 70km / h I was at his wheel but I didn’t have to pedal to beat him. It is not my type of sprint, for this regret yes but no regrets. We worked as a team by doing a tactic and an almost perfect job to try to conquer a finish that if faced in compact ranks did not suit our characteristics on paper. Congratulations to the winner and a huge thank you to all my teammates for trying hard to win this race.”
The team will remain in Greece also in the upcoming week, ready to ride also the Tour of Rhodes starting on 8th of April up to the 11 of April.
