“I knew there would be no more chances to achieve a result because I had to turn this Giro d’Italia around in which I was quite unlucky, especially in the episode on stage 5 with Cavendish. I struggled to fully recover, the cold didn’t help, and I caught a cold a few days later. This podium represents my redemption, and I am extremely happy. Perhaps at some point, I could have done more. Mark Cavendish’s gesture of sportsmanship after the finish was very nice.”
