GREEN PROJECT BARDIANI-CSF FAIZANÈ: TOUR DE LANGKAWI, THIRD STAGE. 2ND PLACE FOR ZANONCELLO, NEW LEADER OF THE GC.
Second podium in this Tour de Langkawi for the Italian rider who takes the leader's jersey in the general classification. 8th place for Lorenzo Conforti still in the top ten for the third consecutive stage.
From Jeli to Baling for 183km, a stage that with its 3500m of elevation gain made itself felt in the legs of the sprinters. Once again, a breakaway of the day composed of 9 riders, later reduced to 6, Luca Covili and Matteo Scalco are the protagonists of the breakaway as far as the #greenteam is concerned: caught with just under 10km to go.
Numerous attempts to anticipate sprint from Manuele Tarozzi, who tried to break away on several occasions in the final kilometers. Zanoncello rightfully takes the lead in the general classification. In this 2023, the sprinter of the #greenteam has reached 4 victories, 11 podiums, and 27 top 10s. 8th place for Conforti, in the top ten for the third consecutive stage.
Zanoncello’s words: “We were perfect and today the stage was tough for the sprinters, there was a lot of climbing at the beginning, fortunately I saved myself, my teammates did a great job 5km from the finish, they were impeccable, there’s a lot of bitterness for the missed victory, because I entered the final curve really well. There will be other opportunities to win, I console myself by wearing the leader’s jersey and hope to keep it at least until the fifth stage.”
The rider from Verona is also 2nd in the points classification. Luca Covili, on the other hand, is 2nd in the climbers’ classification also thanks to the points obtained at the GPM in today’s stage, 3rd is teammate Matteo Scalco who was in the initial group of 9 riders.
