“We will aim for important breakaway, to hunt for stages”. This was the first declaration of Roberto Reverberi at the start of Giro n.105. The team went only close to successes, but the breakaways attempts that reached the finish line were all hit by the team, despite two important retirements in the first week. 2 times on the stage podium, 5 times in the top 10, 11 in the top 15, almost always from the breakaways, with a good Luca Covili 5th in the withe jersey ranking and best young Italian. An almost perfect Giro, where only the stage success was missing to crown excellent performances."
The Giro d’Italia of Bardiani CSF Faizanè ended this Sunday in Verona. A Giro rode on the attack, in “important” breakaway, destined to reach the finish line and therefore very coveted. It was the declared objective, also through a risky strategy and declared by the team manager Roberto Reverberi at the beginning of the #Giro, that of giving up television leaks, to concentrate energies on important actions.
ROBERTO REVERBERI, THE TEAM MANAGER STATMENTS:
“A positive balance for our team considering the initial losses of two very important riders for us like Fiorelli and Zoccarato. The riders did well by running as a team and hitting all the important breakaways that then reached the finish line. It was not easy considering that with two less important men, a sprinter like Modolo who rightly awaited the finals and a neo-pro like Luca Rastelli who had to compete with his first great Giro, the remaining men to alternate in the breakaways were only 4. Yet we reached a 2nd place in Naples, a 3rd in Castelmonte, a 4th in Treviso, a 6th in Cogne and many other important placings, which have not made many other World Tour teams better equipped than us. We alternated well both in the beginning of the stage, alternating in the shots, and in the individual stages, launching in rotation in the breakaway in the actions that we thought could reach the finish line. This is why the balance is more than positive and I think our sponsors are really happy about it. “
GIRO N-105, THE NUMBERS OF THE TEAM:
The Giro of the Bardiani CSF Faizanè started not in the best way, with the first loss of Filippo Fiorelli due to physical problems in the last Sicilian stage, and of Samuele Zoccarato due to a bad fall in the next stage. Their teammates also raced for them, working for Sacha Modolo in the sprints (8th in Reggio Emilia and 11th in Scalea) and above all by entering all the important breakaways, reaching the finish line, and fighting for stage success on several occasions.
Davide Gabburo, in Naples (2nd) and Treviso (4th), and Alessandro Tonelli (3rd), at the Santuario di Castelmonte the riders who came closest to success, beaten by their breakaway competitors only on the finish line. Also excellent was Luca Covili 6th at the finish line in Cogne, behind a splendid stage winner Ciccone. Luca Covili who, by virtue of the good Giro disputed, finished in 5th place in the classification of the white jersey, resulting in the best young Italian in the race (and 4th Italian overall). A good stage placement also for Filippo Zana (in an incredible stage like the one of Turin) and for Filippo Fiorelli.
