GREEN PROJECT BARDIANI-CSF FAIZANÈ: ALESSIO MARTINELLI CLOSE TO FEAT ON STELVIO, 4TH PLACE IN STAGE 4 OF NEXT GEN GIRO.
The homegrown youngster from Valdidentro finished fourth on the Stelvio. He now wears the jersey of best Italian at the Giro Next Gen and is fourth overall.
A first-rate team performance for the #greenteam in this very tough fourth stage of the Giro Next Gen with arrival on the Stelvio. The first Italian rider in the order of arrival and in the general classification wears the jersey of Green Project Bardiani-CSF Faizanè, he is Alessio Martinelli, the #greenteam’s Valtellinese rider gets the 4th place in the stage and moves up to the 4th place in the general classification at 1’17” from the new pink jersey and winner of the day Staune Mittet (Jumbo Visma).
The home athlete, originally from Valdidentro, spurred on and cheered on by his fans and family members throughout the interminable climb of the Stelvio Pass, said, “It was a special day for me, I passed close to my home, there were all my family members there to support me, I had staked a lot on this stage but unfortunately I couldn’t keep the wheel of Staune Mittet and the others, I went at my own pace in the final without exaggerating because I know how hard it is to sprint at 2500m altitude. A very important fourth place, I am proud of this result in such an important stage and a prestigious finish. Now I’m fourth in the overall and on Saturday there will be another very tough stage where the Giro will probably be decided, we’ll see.”
Of note is the 4th place always with Alessio Martinelli in the climbers classification.
Third place for Scalco and 4th place for Luca Paletti in the youth classification.
