The Italian rider takes his fourth career victory and 16th of the season for Green Project Bardiani-CSF Faizanè.
The first stage of the Tour of Taihu Lake was decided in a sprint finish, with Enrico Zanoncello kicking off the Chinese tour with a victory. This marks a significant achievement for the Veronese rider in 2023, securing his 16th victory for the #greenteam in the current season. Zanoncello expressed his satisfaction, stating, “It went very well. The entire team executed flawlessly. We were actively involved in all the breakaways, and both Gabburo and Conforti provided crucial support in the final kilometers. I did a clean sprint, and I’m extremely pleased with the result.”
Taking second place on the podium is Lorenzo Conforti, born in 2004, who commented, “It was a short stage, but the pace was high. We made a concerted effort to prevent the breakaway from gaining an advantage. We clinched the sprint finish alongside Zanoncello for the bonus points. In the end, we successfully orchestrated a strong lead-out, and the sprint was initiated by both me and Zanoncello. It went quite well, I must say. I’m delighted with the podium finish and for my teammate.”
With this win, Zanoncello assumes the position of the first leader in the Chinese race and proudly dons the green jersey for the points classification. Meanwhile, Lorenzo Conforti leads in the youth standings.
