GREEN PROJECT BARDIANI-CSF FAIZANÈ: GREAT RACE OF ALEX TOLIO AND MARTIN MARCELLUSI, FOR 180KM IN BREAKAWAY AT LOMBARDIA.
Great long-range effort by Martin Marcellusi and Alex Tolio, caught after 180km in the lead. Marcellusi passes first on the Ghisallo climb.
At Lombardia, the absolute protagonists of the breakaway were the athletes from Green Project Bardiani-CSF Faizanè. Alex Tolio began a solo pursuit after only 20 km, and he was joined by 5 other athletes, including teammate Martin Marcellusi, who just two days ago achieved an important 7th place in Gran Piemonte. The group of escapees thus reached 16 riders.
Marcellusi was the first to pass on the iconic Ghisallo climb. As the kilometers and climbs went by, the group of escapees lost members until it reduced to 4 athletes. The last to give way were indeed the two riders from the #greenteam: Martin Marcellusi kept pace with Ben Healy until the foot of the Passo di Ganda climb, while Alex Tolio, just behind with Onley, was caught by the group at -42km, when the battle among the big riders broke out. The Green Project Bardiani-CSF Faizanè duo covered an impressive 180km in the breakaway.
