Great spectacle at the Tre Valli Varesine. Valtellinese rider Alessio Martinelli of Green Project Bardiani-CSF Faizanè was the protagonist of the day’s breakaway, which comprised 8 riders. The group, trailed by UAE Team Emirates and Jumbo Visma, closed the gap by reabsorbing a portion of the escapees, including Martinelli.
Kudos to Alex Tolio for keeping pace with the frontrunners for much of the race. The young rider from Bassano del Grappa finished in 34th place, crossing the finish line with the second-best group. Noteworthy was the performance of Luca Cavallo, a stagiaire, who stayed on the wheel of the leaders until the race exploded on the final lap. The decisive move by Belgian rider Van Wilder of Soudal Quick Step with 10km to go secured the day’s victory.
