Colnaghi secures fifth place in the second race of the Challenge Mallorca. Riccardo Lucca in the breakaway.

The second act of the Challenge Mallorca saw Riccardo Lucca among the protagonists: the Italian rider of VF Group Bardiani CSF Faizané was long in the breakaway with three other athletes, getting absorbed by the peloton 14 kilometers from the finish line. In the finale, Luca Colnaghi showcased his skills, exiting the final corner in third position but being overtaken by Van Den Berg and Lamperti, finishing the race in fifth place.

The statements: “Honestly, I’m not satisfied at all because at -500 meters, when I was third, I had a hiccup and lost ground,” said Colnaghi, who started his third year as a pro. “The leg was great, and I managed to limit the damage by finishing 5th. Looking at the positive side, though, the condition seems to be really good. In the finale, it was just me and Zanoncello, and both Marcellusi and Magli did a good job to keep us as far ahead as possible. On Sunday, we’ll try again at the Trofeo Palma, and then I’ll go to the Volta Valenciana.”

Colnaghi’s teammate Riccardo Lucca won the prize for best climber and the intermediate sprints prize.
