BARDIANI CSF FAIZANÈ: 5TH IN THE STAGE AND NEW WHITE JERSEY LEADERSHIP FOR FILIPPO ZANA IN TOUR DU LIMOUSIN.
In the first demanding stage of the Tour du Limousin it's time for the big names, and Filippo Zana is in the battle for the final victory. On the most demanding KOM of the day, 35 km from the finish, a dozen of riders takes advantage. Victory went to Diego Ulissi, 5th place for the Italian champion who, thanks to today's performance, wears the jersey of best youngster in the Tour du Limousin and climbs to 8th place in the overall standings.
After the 7th place conquered by Filippo Fiorelli in the second stage, today it is Filippo Zana who runs as a great protagonist at the Tour du Limousin. 5th place in the stage, best youngster jersey and 8th place in the overall standings for the Italian champion, who in the most demanding stage of the French race plays for the victory until the end.
The decisive action starts on the most demanding GPM of the day where the day’s breakaway from the forcing of the group is canceled. The best of the peloton is reduced to about ten units, among them the Italian national champion Filippo Zana. The victory of the day goes to Diego Ulissi, who regulates the narrow sprint ahead of Van Avermaet and Aranburu. 5th stage place for the Italian champion who now also climbs to eighth place in the overall standings, 18 ‘behind the leader Alex Aranburu (Movistar). He is now the new leader of the Best Young Rider ranking.
These are the words of Filippo Zana at the finish: “When the race on the GPM become hard I tried to always stay in front of them and cut back on the various attacks so as not to be surprised I knew it was the good action from which the winner would come out. At less than 2 km Rui Costa took the wrong road but luckily we immediately behind us had no problems. In the sprint I gave my all and was third, then at the last 50 meters I stopped a little and they passed me. However, I know I gave my best, I want to honor this shirt on every occasion. The leg is good so I’ll try again to ride as a protagonist.”
