Close to achieving a remarkable feat, the nineteen-year-old from Green Project Bardiani-CSF Faizanè launched an attack on the final climb, just 1 km from the finish line. Just when victory seemed within his grasp, he was overtaken by Langellotti and Lutsenko, who secured the top two spots on the podium. Pellizzari finished in third place. A terrible crash for Alessio Nieri, the Italian rider was taken to Izmir Hospital for further examinations.
Pellizzari’s statements: “Thanks to my teammates who kept me in front, I entered the climb in a good position. In the finale, I felt good, and as soon as I saw a moment of control between Bora and Astana, I tried to attack. Unfortunately, I was caught, but there will be other opportunities to try again. Our thoughts are with Nieri, who unfortunately crashed. We hope it’s nothing serious and wish him a speedy recovery.”
Luca Colnaghi maintains the lead in the points classification and retains the green jersey.
