GREEN PROJECT BARDIANI-CSF FAIZANÈ: SECOND STAGE OF THE GIRO DI SICILIA. 4TH PLACE FOR FILIPPO FIORELLI.
The Sicilian rider of Green Project Bardiani-CSF Faizanè came close to a podium finish in the 2nd stage designated for sprinters, from Canicattì to Vittoria.
The second stage of the Giro di Sicilia from Canicattì to Vittoria, 193km in total, comes to an end. The race began with a breakaway of nine riders with 30km to go. The eventful route did not prevent the group from gradually recovering the disadvantage and rejoining the peloton with 6km to go to set up the sprint. Good work by the #greenteam riders to keep Filippo Fiorelli covered in anticipation of the sprint finish, the Sicilian rider of Green Project Bardiani-CSF Faizanè finished 4th, stage victory to Niccolò Bonifazio of Intermarchè Circus Gobert. Martin Marcellusi finished 12th.
Filippo Fiorelli’s comments: “It was a pity because I had the team at my disposal and we worked perfectly, especially in the final stages, where my teammates set up the sprint, first with Zoccarato, Tonelli and Gabburo and then at 2km from the end with Marcellusi and Magli. I started early in the sprint knowing that I had the wind in my favour, but 200m from the end I had a small skid and I lost the opportunity to engage the riders in front of me, I was not aiming for victory but at least for the podium, there is some regret but let’s think about the next stages“.
